Shin Hyun-Uk

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of acceptance of people with visual impairments and to find factors such as demographic characteristics, disability and personal characteristics, and environmental characteristics, affecting acceptance of disability. The data analyzed was extracted from 2016 Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled(PSED). This study was based on 591 persons with visual impairments and analyzed the effect on acceptance of disabilities by means test, frequency analysis, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. As a result, the factors affecting acceptance of disability was degree of disability, self-esteem, family support, and discrimination experience. Support strategies and implications were suggested for acceptance of people with visual impairments based on the findings. First, to improve acceptance of disability, early mental health promotion programs should be strengthened, which focused on the individual's internal experience. Second, information and education programs should be encouraged that enable families and relatives to provide social and emotional support to people with visual impairments. Finally, to overcome the discrimination experience of the visually impaired, a peer counseling program should be activated.
